Why Tottenham Hotspur are in serious danger of getting relegated

16th in the Premier league table, only 5 points off the relegation zone, Thomas Frank sacked, no wins in 8 premier league matches, relegation rivals West Ham United in terrific form and now the hire of Igor Tudor on a short term contract. Things could not be going more wrong at Tottenham. What was once unthinkable is now looking like a real possibility and unless something changes quickly we could be looking at one of the darkest chapters in the history of the North London club.

Ange Out, Frank In

Ange Postecoglou was sacked after winning Tottenham their first trophy in 18 years. Now some people say it was harsh while some people look at the league results and say otherwise. He may have had his issues tactically but Ange was a big personality off the pitch - something you need when managing a club like Tottenham. While sacking Ange wasn't exactly the wrong decision, hiring Frank to replace him was disastrous.

Thomas Frank since day one has lacked the personality and charisma required to manage a Premier league "Big Six" club. He failed to influence the players who enjoyed under Ange and it led to disagreements as early as November when Spence and Romero ignored him after a disgraceful loss to Chelsea at home. The writing was on the wall for Frank and Tottenham needed to replace him with a big personality or someone who knows the club and guide them to safety. They hired Igor Tudor.

Igor Tudor - Short term Saviour or a Long term Disaster?

Igor Tudor's career has been a classic example of "falling upwards". He has never lasted in a job for more than a year and has always come under criticism for the club fans at any club he goes. His only decent job was his first Udinese spell when he saved the club from relegation. He is a mediocre tactician who lasted only seven months at Juventus after a 8 game winless run. Adding to that the fact that he uses a back three - a formation which has simply not worked in the Premier league this season, this appointment looks nothing less than a disaster.

Igor Tudor was sacked 7 months into his tenure at Juventus

Tottenham fans should hope that Tudor manages to get 2-3 wins in his first 5 games to guide them to safety. Maybe he adapts and gets some wins or maybe he gets a new manager bounce but if he can't guide them to wins then it's looking gloom in North London. West Ham are going through their best form this season and Forest have just hired Victor Pereira on a short term deal - the man who went on a six game winning streak to guide Wolves to safety last season. There is a realistic possibility that they can catch Tottenham.

Vinai Disaster and Recruitment Issues

Tottenham's recruitment has been nothing less than awful since last season. Postecoglou recently said in the Overlap podcast that he was expecting players like Mbeumo and Neto and Semenyo after he finished fifth, but he got Solanke and three teenagers. Ever since Vinai Venkatesham has taken charge as the CEO of the club, he has bad decisions after bad decisions.

Venkatesham's reign has been a disaster

From the sacking of Mourinho a week before a cup final, hiring of Frank this season, transfer window issues it's a mess at Tottenham for years. Every manager who managed the club after Pochettino has called out the club on various issues. Tottenham fans are losing their connection to the club and the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium is degrading day by day.

If the club manages to stay up - which is still a very likely scenario, they need to bring in a manager like Pochettino who the fans will get behind or a serial winner who will get them back to the top 6 of the league. Igor Tudor may steady the ship but the club has to act quickly before they face the inevitable consequences of years of mismanagement.
