The 5 Most Underrated Premier League Signings of the Season

Every premier league brings transfers that dominate headlines, players that get people off their seat and players who help their team rise to the top. As the curtain falls down on another thrilling premier league season, signings like Matheus Cunha, Rayan Cherki and Joao Pedro have become superstars at their respective clubs. But there are some transfers which don't get talked about, but they have a huge role shaping their club's seasons and squads, having an impact on and off the pitch and becoming the heartbeat of the squad. These signings often become the difference between a good and a great season. From Sunderland's leader to a striker revived to his best after three years of mediocracy, here are the 5 transfers from this season that need to be talked about more. ( Hint - There's no Alejandro Garnacho on this list)

Dominic Calvert Lewin - Everton To Leeds

Go back to 2020 and you will see Calvert Lewin terrorizing the league's best defenders scoring goals every game. Carlo Ancelotti had made him a demon and he scored 40+ goals across two seasons under him. But a combination of injuries and off field issues meant his career had completed stalled and he was now unwanted in the blue side of Merseyside. This led to Daniel Farke's newly promoted side to take a punt on him and sign him on a free. And what a signing it's been. Fourteen league goals, first Leeds player since 1961 to score in six games in a row and integral in Leed's escape from the relegation battle to mid table safety. He has led an incredible foundation from which he can kick on, injuries permitting and become one of the best strikers in the league again.

Dominic Calvert Lewin has revived his career at Elland Road.

Michael Kayode - Fiorentina to Brentford

As football goes back to full backs who defend better than attack, Michael Kayode is an anomaly. The only defender in the top 15 dribblers of the league, he caused carnage in the opposition defences. His incredible long throws also helped Brentford score goals and his 14.5 million fee looks like an absolute bargain. Italy's horrendous team selectors unsurprisingly did not select him for the World Cup qualifiers which also saw Italy get knocked out again. He's still 21 and has lots of bright years ahead of him, Michael Kayode can become of the best full backs in the world.

The young Italian is quickly becoming one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

Victor Lindelof - Manchester United to Aston Villa

Another free signing on the list, Lindelof has quickly become one of the cult heroes at Villa Park. Signed due to Villa's financial restrictions, he was easily their best signing in a historical season for the Villans. In a team which got a Europa league trophy and a top 4 finish in the league, Lindelof was an integral part. He deputised brilliantly for Pau Torres in defence and his performances in midfield were exceptional when needed. His leadership qualities no doubt helped the dressing room as well and his experience playing in the Champions league for United and as a captain for Sweden make him nearly untouchable in this Villa squad. For a free transfer, this is scintillating business.

The "Iceman" has been a dependable player on Unai Emery.

Rayan - Vasco Da Gama to Bournemouth

A teenager moving from Brazil to Europe usually needs some months or a season to get used to European football. Unless you are Neymar, or in this case Rayan. Signed in January after scoring 20 goals in the 2025 Brazilian Season, the boy has lit up the south coast. He isn't your average footballer. It feels like you are watching a Gareth Bale regen. Dynamic powerful dribbling style, unstoppable attacking quality and incredible pace, Bournemouth fans have certainly come a long way, from watching Jordan Ibe on the wing to watching this demon tearing it up in the Premier league. Watch out for him at the World Cup and don't be surprised if he gets sold to one of Europe's elites for 60+ Million by the end of next season. He's sure to be one of the next big things in world football.

Granit Xhaka - Bayer Leverkusen to Sunderland

Granit Xhaka has already written himself in Sunderland history books.

You could take Granit Xhaka's name in front of any Sunderland fan and they will stand up and say " O Captain My Captain". The impact of Granit Xhaka on the club, the fans and the city cannot be overstated. He added leadership to a young team and his desire to fight tooth and nail for the team on the pitch has introduced a new culture to the club. He was their on pitch manager all season and you could even say he has a good shout to be called Sunderland's best ever signing as the Black Cats march on towards European football next season. Sunderland's first season in the Premier league could not have gone better and neither could this signing.
