Top deals from the January transfer window 2025

The January transfer window has slammed shut with some interesting deals on deadline day. Tottenham managing to convince Mathys Tel and Manchester City signing Nico Gonzalez as Pep Guardiola tries to end city’s shocking run of form being few of the many talked about deals of the window. Here are some top signings and some signings which went under the radar that could make a huge difference this season and in the future.

Marcus Rashford

After enjoying an incredible campaign during Erik Ten Hag’s first season in charge, Rashford’s form has nosedived and he finds himself outside the England squad. Although he started the Ruben Amorim era at Old Trafford with 3 goals in 2 league games, things quickly turned sour as his off field issues and lack of effort in training made Ruben Amorim drop him for the Manchester Derby. His move to Aston Villa might just be what he needs as he tries to rediscover his form and improve his game. If Unai Emery finds the right motivation for Rashford and gets the best out of him, Villa could not only start climbing the league table but also make a deep run in the Champions league.

Omar Marmoush

15 goals in 17 Bundesliga games made him a target for a host of top clubs this season and given his performances he could just be what City need right now. Pep Guardiola’s side have heavily relied on Erling Haaland for goals this season and lacked a profile similar to Julian Alvarez after this move to Atletico in the summer but Marmoush’s arrival could help ease the load on Haaland as the duo have the potential to be one of the deadliest attack in the league.

Mathys Tel

A saga which went on till the last few hours of the deadline day. The teenager reportedly rejected Spurs a few days before the deadline only to join them on deadline day. With a 10 million loan fee it is an expensive loan but we could see him become an instant hero at Spurs. Postecoglu will be hoping that Tel provides the goals and his team finish this disappointing campaign on a high.

Ben Chilwell

A transfer which went under the radar. Playing for England just a few years ago the left back’s spell at Chelsea has been hampered with injuries. It has been a frustrating season for Chilwell as he has failed to make a single appearance under Maresca.

But Ben Chilwell can be one of the most exciting full backs in England and if he hits the ground running he could help Palace to steer clear of relegation trouble and solidify their place in the mid table.

Patrick Dorgu

A Ruben Amorim player if there ever is one. Fast Pacey wing back who takes defenders on whilst being defensively strong. Although young and raw he will provide much needed physicality and pace in the United team which lacks just about everything right now and will provide Ruben Amorim with options across the back line and midfield.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

It’s not often a player like Kvaratskhelia moves in the January transfer window. The Georgian Talisman joins the French club on a deal till 2029 as Luis Enrique builds his squad to try and finally get PSG the champions league trophy. Joining hands with the likes of Bradley Barcola and a resurgent Ousmane Dembele he will form one of the most exciting attacking trios in the world. Time will tell if “Kvaradona” as his fans call him is finally the final piece in the puzzle for PSG as the famous Champions league trophy still eludes them.

Brice Samba

The Frenchman has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Ligue 1 since his transfer to Lens from Nottingham Forest 3 years ago. Now he joins a Rennes team surprisingly in a relegation battle as new manager Habib Beye will hope that his new goalkeeper keeps the goals out and Rennes fight for survival and hope to continue their 31 year stay in the top tier of French football.
